Gulab jamun is a milk-solid-based South Asian sweet, particularly popular in India. Soft, spongy and melt in mouth gulab jamuns drenched in syrup is a traditional homemade sweet. It is often garnished with dried nuts like almonds to enhance flavour.

Gulab jamun is a dessert often eaten at festivals, birthdays or major celebrations such as marriages, the Muslim celebrations of Eid ul-Fitr and Eid al-Adha, and the Hindu festival of Diwali (the Indian festival of light).

Ingredients(1 cup = 250 ml)

  • khoya – 250 gm
  • Sugar – ½ Kg
  • Wheat Flour – 65 gm or 1 cup
  • Cardamom Powder – ½ tsp
  • Chironji – 1 tsp
  • Chopped Cashews – 1 tsp
  • Edible Soda – 1 pinch
  • Edible Yellow Colour – Less than 1 pinch
  • Ghee – For Frying
